So what might you expect as a new student in Year 7 at Charles La Trobe College? We offer a dynamic transition and orientation program in Term 4 to prepare prospective students for the Secondary School programs. On orientation day we offer:
- ‘Meet and greet’ with tutor group and classroom teachers.
- An explanation of the procedures and processes of Secondary School including reading the timetable, morning routines, behavioural expectations, rules and responsibilities.
- A tour of Charles La Trobe College Secondary School.
- Introductory classes in a variety of subject areas.
- A range of engaging activities for students to get to know their peers and teachers including a shared lunch.
Year 7 students participate in the ‘Start up Program’ – a values program developed by the staff at the College. This program provides students with a head start to success within the Secondary School program.
Year 7 Program
In Year 7 student learning experiences are engaging, relevant and challenging. Teachers work closely in teams to track student achievement and progress. To ensure each student’s academic needs are being met, we use Year 6 transition information to gain an understanding of each student’s social and learning needs. We then personalise learning to ensure each student is extended academically and supported to thrive socially and emotionally.
Year 7 students explore the theme ‘We Discover’. Their curriculum includes core and specialist subjects:

- Arts – Art, Media, Drama and Instrumental Music
